  近日,第二十一届中国实证会计研讨会论文评审结果揭晓,我院丁文捷助理教授的论文“Corporate Site Visits and Management Range Guidance”荣获优秀论文提名奖,合作者为卡迪夫大学Mengjia Li、Qingwei Wang教授,澳门大学Jason Zezhong Xiao教授。

Abstract

  

  Based on a unique dataset in China from 2012 to 2020, we show a novel adverse consequence of corporate site visits: it boosts managers’ overconfidence. We find that more frequent site visits before the release of management range guidance lead to more miscalibrated and optimistic manager earnings forecasts. Our finding is robust to alternative econometric specifications and robustness tests. Investigating the plausible underlying mechanisms, managers’ confidence is more subjective to the effect of site visits when visitors are more optimistic. This finding substantiates the social transmission explanation that firm managers acquire overconfidence from visitors during site visits. We find little support for the argument that managers proactively release optimistic forecasts to impress investors.
