Doctoral Program of Applied Economics

Objective

  

The discipline is guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, fully implements the Party's education policy, and carries out the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education. The core of the program is ideological and belief education, and the aim is to cultivate high-level professionals who are fully developed in virtue, intelligence, physical fitness, beauty and labor and possess social responsibility and innovation spirit.

  

The Doctoral Program of Applied Economics at the Business School (Entrepreneurship School) aims to cultivate research-oriented professionals who possess a solid theoretical foundation, advanced research methods, and excellent communication skills. They should have critical thinking and innovative spirit, be capable of integrating interdisciplinary knowledge, and aspire to reach the peaks of economics and address challenges specific to China. Students are expected to master systematic professional knowledge and skills, have a solid theoretical grounding, and demonstrate innovation awareness and capability. They should be proficient in the latest research frontiers and methodologies in their field, possess strong independent research abilities, and be able to write academic papers and research reports effectively. Graduates of this program will be well-qualified for teaching and research positions in universities, research institutions, or corporate research centers, as well as for roles in management and consulting in areas such as banking, securities, international trade, regional economics, and finance.

  

  

Research Direction

  

This program admits and cultivates students under the primary discipline without dividing them into specific research directions.

 

Key research directions at the Business School (Entrepreneurship School) include:

 

1.Finance: Students are expected to master economic and financial theories, acquire comprehensive specialized knowledge, and develop strong foreign language skills, financial modeling capabilities, and financial data analysis skills. They should Stay abreast of cutting-edge developments in finance both domestically and internationally., integrate macroeconomic and microeconomic financial theories, and explore cutting-edge theoretical issues in national financial behavior, international financial conditions, financial market operations, and corporate financial decision-making.

 

2.Industrial Economics: Students are required to have a thorough and solid understanding of industrial economics theories, keep pace with the field’s frontiers and developments, and be proficient in the research paradigms relevant to the discipline both domestically and internationally. They must comprehensively and systematically grasp the basic theories and methods of modern economic quantitative analysis and be able to solve practical economic, industrial development, and management issues through a combination of quantitative and qualitative analysis.

  

  

Program Duration

  

Regular doctoral program: The basic length of schooling is four-year, with the longest learning period not exceeding seven-year (including time for suspension).

 

Successive postgraduate and doctoral program: The basic length of schooling is five-year, with 2 years for the master's phase and 3 years for the doctoral phase. The total length is within 8 years (including time for suspension).

 

Bachelor-straight-to-doctorate program: The basic length of schooling is 5 years, with the longest learning period not exceeding eight-year (including time for suspension).

  

  

 Cultivation Method

  

The program implements a tutorial system, fully leveraging the role of academic tutors in guiding graduate students. Academic tutors are responsible for helping students develop the personal curriculum plan, select courses, engage in coursework, participate in academic activities, choose thesis topics, conduct scientific research, and write academic papers. Academic tutors will conduct regular academic exchanges with students and strengthen political and ideological work. Besides, the school has established a graduate student advisory group composed of academic tutors and relevant personnel to conduct periodic assessments of the students.

  

  

Curriculum

  

Fundamental specialized courses include Advanced Macroeconomics, Advanced Microeconomics, Advanced Econometrics, and Advanced Mathematical Economics. Specialized courses will include academic seminars in relevant fields based on students' research interests. Elective courses are available to broaden students' knowledge and disciplinary scope, enhancing their ability to integrate and extend into related areas of economic management.
