Sun Yat-Sen University·Shenzhen Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Technology Finance Research Center

To respond to the grand blueprint of the 20th National Congress report on " Improving systems for scientific and technological innovation and Accelerating the implementation of the innovation-driven development strategy," and to effectively promote the full integration between technology, industry, and finance, the "Sun Yat-Sen University · Shenzhen Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Technology Finance Research Center" was established in April 2024, with approval from Guangdong Federation of Social Sciences. This marks a significant step by Sun Yat-Sen University in exploring new models for technology-driven development.

The center focuses on many areas within innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology finance. These areas include but are not limited to: digital technology empowerment and corporate transformation and upgrading, innovation and economic transformation of Chinese enterprises, industrial clusters and regional economic development driven by entrepreneurs, theoretical and empirical methods of debt financing decisions in innovative and entrepreneurial firms, and applications of artificial intelligence in finance. Through diverse and in-depth research directions, the center is committed to providing solid theoretical support and practical guidance for comprehensive innovation and upgrading transformation in the socio-economic sphere, contributing to the high-quality development blueprint of the new era.

The center is directed by Taizhong Zhi, Vice President of Sun Yat-Sen University, and executed by Li Guangzhong, Dean of the Business School (Entrepreneurship School) at Sun Yat-Sen University. The center is composed of a strong team of 29 distinguished scholars. Members of the center actively undertake significant national and important projects and provide valuable insights for the high-quality development of both national and local economies. Since 2021, center members have published nearly one hundred academic papers in top international and domestic journals, including the Journal of Accounting Research, Manufacturing and Service Operations Management, Journal of Economic Theory, The Economic Journal, Journal of International Economics, Review of Accounting Studies, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Research Policy, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Risk Analysis, as well as domestic leading journals such as Economic Research Journal, Management World, Acta Psychologica Sinica, Journal of Management Science in China, China Economic Quarterly, and Nankai Business Review. The research center aggregates numerous top research talents, forming a highly efficient and dynamic research team that collectively drives innovation and development in the field of technology finance, contributing further wisdom towards the high-quality development of the national economy and society.

As a bridge between academia and industry, the center aspires to become a core hub for the deep integration of innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology finance disciplines. Its goal is to inject new momentum into the economic and social development of the country, particularly the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. On this platform, the center will employ a multifaceted approach including talent cultivation in innovation and entrepreneurship, incubating startup projects, researching industry policies, enhancing corporate capabilities, empowering investment attraction, and hosting international entrepreneurial competitions. This will not only advance breakthroughs in theoretical research but also tightly connect academia and industry and foster extensive collaboration networks to promote knowledge exchange, technology transfer, and policy development, carving a bright path towards high-quality development.
